Darrington Jade Area (Stillaguamish River)

The North Cascades contain several ultramafic bodies where nephrite jade formed at contact zones during serpentinization. The Darrington area along the Stillaguamish River has produced nephrite ranging from dark spinach green to lighter apple green. River cobble hunting is the most accessible approach — walk gravel bars and look for dense, dark green stones with a waxy luster.
