Shakespeare Ghost Town

Historic ghost town in Hidalgo County south of Lordsburg, NM. Built on mining in the 1920s before the industry collapsed. Rockhounds visit the remains of the town and old mines, finding malachite, chrysocolla, and azurite. Much of the land is on private property — contacting landowners before searching is essential. The area also produces calcite, fluorite, and quartz. Active private mining operations still occur in the area.
