Hurricane Mountain

Public mineral collecting area on Hurricane Mountain in the White Mountain National Forest. Known for amethyst and smoky quartz crystals in alkali syenite pegmatite. Four collecting localities on the mountain (West, North, East, and Summit). Also produces amazonite, zircon, arfvedsonite, astrophyllite, and other rare minerals. Free open-to-public crystal digging. Requires hiking — no facilities at the site.
