Galena Mining Dumps (Tri-State District)

Historic lead and zinc mining area in Cherokee County, part of the Tri-State Mining District that produced 50% of US zinc and 10% of US lead. Large mining dumps accessible for rockhounding with galena, sphalerite, and associated minerals. Area is a former Superfund site — some reclamation completed. Rockhound with caution around old mine workings.
