The South Yuba River cuts through the Mother Lode gold belt. Recreational gold panning permitted in public waterways. Fine flake to small nuggets found in bedrock cracks, behind boulders, and inside river bends. No motorized equipment. Sluice boxes permitted in most locations. Fall after snowmelt recedes is most productive. Part of South Yuba River State Park area.
