Hauser Geode Beds

BLM-managed geode collecting area in Imperial County. Chalcedony-lined geodes weather out of Tertiary volcanic ash and tuff deposits. Size ranges from golf balls to footballs. Roughly 1 in 3-4 geodes has good interior. 25 lbs per day limit per person. Hand tools only. Summer temperatures exceed 115°F — visit October through April. Accessible via graded dirt roads from Wiley Well exit off I-10.
